FAQ for Zittware Beta-Testers

Friends,
A few questions have come up that I thought would benefit all the current beta-testers:

  • "As requested, I uninstalled my previous [Registered] version before installing the new beta version."

Ouch! Humm.. The registered V1.71 and Beta versions will coexist fine. It's just that you loose the ability to uninstall older versions (from Control panel) when the new one is installed. I'd recommend you re-install the registered version you originally purchased after uninstalling the shareware beta you just installed in a different directory. Then install Beta's (to a different directory) without un-installing the registered version. At a later date, you can run UNINSTAL.EXE from the registered version and it's should work as long as you don't destroy the uninstall info in the zittware/cdmaster directory.

  • "A couple things about the install. It did come back and state that several files could not be installed due to the fact they were in use at the time."

Typical Install problems. I wouldn't worry about those.

  • "This seemed to create no problems though. Noticed when I checked under help that it stated it was V1.72.0.42 and not V2.00 "

This is correct, the next beta will be V1.73.x.x (and so on), only the actual released version will be V2.0.0.0.

  • "Also came back as a evaluation version even though my earlier ver was registered and not sure how to make it recognize that I am a registered owner. "

It won't. As a registered owner, you are only licensed for V1.71. Future versions are not a free upgrade for registered users.
I have yet to determine how I'm going to "upgrade" the registered users. I'll probably try and offer a discounted upgrade for you when the program is released as shareware. However, I *usually* offer all active beta testers a free upgrade to the registered version. When I say "active", I mean I can tell your downloading, trying the software out, and continue to file useful comments. If I receive comments about the program (good or bad) from a beta tester, I'm most likely offer active beta-testers a free upgrade (via e-mail). I do this because I know it can be frustrating and time consuming to try everything out then to file a bug report... the upgrade is my way of saying "Thanks." This offer is at my discretion and constitutes no "promise" or binding law.

  • "I downloaded CDMaster. Sounds pretty cool only I don't own a cassette player (except in my car). What about CD to CD-R/RW or CD to DVD-RW ( in the future)?"

Car Radios is exactly why I created CDMaster. There are "plans" for CD -> CD capability in CDMaster, but to be honest I don't see it happening... mainly because Windoze doesn't provide an API for CD-R (RW) in the OS. I'd have to buy a $1K 3rd party SDK and pay royalties... and that ain't gonna happen unless I make that much in registrations in a month.

  • "Do beta-testers get the full registered versions when the product is released to the public?"

  • "I can't log into the beta tester's WWW page but I'm a registered beta tester."

If you move to another computer or delete your cookie, you'll have to resubmit the beta application.

  • "I tried solution #7, but I still can't log into the WWW page."

Make sure your WWW brower (netscape, Internet Explorer) has JAVA enabled. Under IE4.01, this option resides View/Internet Options/Advanced/Security/Cookies/Always Accept Cookies and View/Internet Options/Advanced/Java VM/Java JIT complier enabled.
